]]>GUEST BLOG
Back in the Autumn, Holly & Becky styled our Chalkfield Barn venue in W Sussex beautifully for a micro wedding styled shoot. H&B run Fiesta Fields in Sussex and also have their own events business Fete + Feast. Over to you ladies.
Well what a funny old year it’s been. Covid 19 has really affected us all, but ultimately do you know what?… Love wins!!
WHAT IS A MICRO WEDDING?
Definition: “ A micro wedding is an intimate affair, typically with no more than 50 guests. They still feature time honoured traditions that make a wedding but on a much smaller scale”.
There is something so special about a micro wedding, they ooze romance and intimacy allowing you to just focus on you and your day. With a smaller guest list comes a smaller price tag, less people to please, and less stress, which allows your imagination to run wild and create something truly unique and memorable.
Despite the roadmap and freedom within our grasp, we feel this will still be a trend many couples will still opt for for 2021.
So we decided to style a micro wedding setup to show that small can be beautiful and you can achieve that vision you’ve been dreaming of on a smaller scale. Small and intimate was the main objective, so we needed a venue where we could transform a blank canvas space into a magical and whimsical surrounding.
THE BARN
Chalkfield barn in Arundel, West Sussex was exactly that. Set in a secluded field, surrounded by countryside, a small rustic barn stands full of haybales and wooden cladding. This was the perfect starting place to create something special and after many many pinterest sessions, we finally decided on a 70’s boho festival wedding.
Keeping with the rustic feel, and considering we were shooting in late September we opted for an autumnal colour palette, full of rich coppers, burgandys, peaches and golds. Textures for us were important to try and create a cosy inside when outside aesthetic.
We wanted to achieve a relaxed and intimate wedding, without compromising on details and style. We worked with one of the best florists in Sussex Leila Watts who just gets your brief every time, and creates the most sensational, exquisite floral designs. We decided to create a number of focal points, so it felt like a festival with lots of little unusual areas to explore throughout the day.
OUTDOOR BLESSING
The ceremony is normally the most photographed aspect of any wedding so this needed to be special. We set this up in the field in front of a beautiful treeline. We used our gold moon arch as the backdrop which was decorated by Leila with pampas, chrysanthums, ecuyptus, spray roses and lots of other statement florals.
We hired the most gorgeous peacock chairs, earthy persian rugs and huge statement copper urns from Toast which we filled with striking floral displays and placed around the moon arch. The seating was casual, just as it should be, so hay bales and cushions were used.
BELL TENT DEN
We wanted a special post ceremony area for our couple and guests so that they could enjoy a celebratory drink together after saying their I dos.
We set up a beautiful bell tent den, where guests could enjoy cocktail hour, with a pallet table, pampas flower arrangements, bean bag pouffes, persian rugs, candles and a vintage cocktail trolley.
ALFRESCO DINING
The wedding breakfast table was our favourite aspect of this shoot. We wanted the alfresco dining experience under the stars, so we strung festoon lighting outside the front of the barn and hung giant boho crochet dreamcatchers above, creating this dreamy starry experience.
A simple wooden table was used on top of a woven hessian rug and styled using soft cream crochet table runners, glass and gold charger plates and glasses and gold cutlery on luxury linen napkins. Amber and brown glass bottles were filled with blush david austin roses, rust crystanthums, burgundy spray roses and trailing eucalyptus alongside brass candelabras with cream pillar candles.
We wanted to make full use of the statement peacock chairs so restyled them here by wiring a floral trim to the chairs for our bride and groom. We feel that the best memories are always made around a table with your tribe and this setup was certainly fit for boho kings and queens.
THE CAKE
Of course a Fete+Feast event wouldn’t be complete without a cake! We are obsessed with cake and strongly believe that if you’re going to have a cake at an event it needs to be an eye catching centrepiece that tastes as incredible as it looks.
For this shoot we decided on a carrot cake, laced with pecans and cinnamon and smothered in cream cheese buttercream to create a semi naked effect and finished with a dulce leche caramel drip. To decorate we used autumnal fruits, blackberries and figs, and finished it off with foliage, chrysanthemums, spray roses and Julian plumart macaroons.
EVENING CHILL OUT IN THE BARN
The barn was used for a relaxation area for the evening, where we turned the hay bales into a huge hay bale sofa, draped in soft furnishings and surrounded by vintage armchairs, furniture and an old leathered luggage trunk as a low table to bring the inside outside.
Little trinkets full of flowers, eucalyptus garlands and tea lights were dotted around, bringing some warmth and cosiness and pops of colour. We were lucky that Chalkfield Barn has some amazing decorative lightbulbs giving off a gorgeous golden glow when the sun starts to go down.
Fire pits were dotted outside of the barn alongside small crafted wooden benches under the festoons and dreamcatchers for evening hangs and late night marshmallow toasting.
Chalkfield Barn is a seriously special place. It really allows you to put your stamp on it, making your vision possible to create some amazing memories.

]]>Claire and Nathan celebrated their marriage with a relaxed tipi wedding at our Hidden Valley field venue in Surrey. It was a relaxed day with a church service in the local church, a walk back to the field accompanied by a funky brass band, BBQ meal and an awesome party in their beautifully styled off white canvas tipis.
“We first met online, got engaged in September 2017 whilst on holiday in Greece, and were engaged for 21 months before getting married. We both wanted our wedding to be relaxed, informal and fun! After visiting the field through Fiesta Fields we couldn’t imagine anywhere else being quite as perfect! We wanted to get married in a church, and there was a gorgeous church within walking distance. The next big decision was what kind of marquee/tent we wanted. We decided on a tipi and we’re so glad we did!”
TIPIS AND STYLING
Claire and Nathan opted for three giant hats and one smaller cirrus for their 120 guests. They wanted plenty of space inside, just in case of rain. Luckily, that’s something they didn’t need to worry about, as the weather on the day was gorgeous. The tipis looked fab all in a row, with the far left two tipis dedicated to dining. Everyone sat banquet style with the head table running at 180 degrees from the rows. The third giant hat was for dancing and the cirrus served as the bar space.
“In terms of styling, we wanted a rustic look, and most of the decor was handmade by Nathan’s sister Hope. I really liked the idea of mismatched vintage crockery, so I asked friends and family to donate old sets. We were so happy with the result”.
Inside the tipis, Claire & Nathan kept the vibes clean and fresh with white paper lanterns and hoops suspended in the tipis of foliage lace and ribbon. White and hessian bunting made by Hope was strung across the tipi fronts and festoon lights from the tipi peaks.
Hope had also been busy making a cork table plan, welcome signage and place cards. The tables were decorated with vases of garden roses and garlands of eucalyptus.
Favours were shot glasses from Ikea. Claire is Polish and a traditional vodka toast was planned during the speeches, so Claire and Nathan thought it would be nice for their guests to be able to take their shot glasses home.
GETTING READY
Claire and her bridesmaids got ready in a nearby Air B&B. The bridesmaids wore long wrap dresses in a pretty shade of peach from Mango, together with sandals from ASOS and rings from Tai.
“I bought them each a ring as a thank you gift, with their birthstone in an ombre design. The bouquets were just stunning and made for them by a family friend Barbara (or Boopie). Old English garden roses in peach hues, along with scabiosa foliage, hand tied with lace ribbon.
I found a few images on Pinterest of the type of flowers and colours that I liked, and Boopie just brought them to life! The colours helped me choose the bridesmaids’ dresses, rather than the other way round.”
CLAIRE
“I’m a huge fan of lace, but found that fully lace dresses didn’t suit me as much as other fabrics did, so the fact that this dress was mostly crepe with a bit of lace was perfect. After trying on a few dresses with a leg split, I fell in love with the idea of having my legs out, so that helped narrow down the search! I could talk for hours about my dress, but in a nutshell, I loved how it combined a modern and classic look.
My dress came from Halo & Wren in Hemel Hempstead, There are only two boutiques in the UK that stock Marquise dresses, one in Hemel and one in Hull. It was a bit of a trek getting to appointments from South East London, but totally 100% worth it! Jemma (the owner) and Sarah (the seamstress) were so helpful and friendly. They both went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with my dress, and gave excellent expert advice on alterations and customisation. I would highly recommend both them and the boutique.”
Claire wore white heeled sandals and a tulle veil, which she borrowed. “I wore a sapphire ring given to me by my grandmother. It was my something old and something blue.”
NATHAN
Nathan wore a navy suit from Next, with a grey waistcoat from ASOS and bespoke cufflinks with Claire’s initials on from Not on the High Street.
THE CEREMONY
The ceremony took place at pretty St Nicholas Church, a short walk from Hidden Valley. Claire made her entrance with her Dad to ‘You’re So Cool’ the theme songfrom the film True Romance.
“After the ceremony, The New York Brass Band led a procession for us and our guests from the church, through the village of Peper Harow, and through the field to our tipis. This was such a highlight of our wedding, and something that our guests loved. It was so much fun having them. A table had been set up near the entrance to the field, so our guests could pick up a glass of bubbles for the walk”
DRINKS RECEPTION
Upon arrival at the Hidden Valley, guests enjoyed fizz and cold beers and Polish appetisers. Guests mingled outdoors, enjoying the sunshine and NY Brass Band continued to play. They finished their set with a fun conga which everyone got involved with, the dancing continued to ‘Walking on Sunshine’ by Katrina and the Waves and for the last song, guests formed a circle around Claire and Nathan as they danced to Aha ‘Take on Me’. These guys were fab and I’ve never seen the dancing start so early at a wedding. They really set the tone.
In keeping with the relaxed vibes of the day, a barbecue feast was cooked and served by The Gourmet Hog Roast Company.
After the speeches and vodka shots, it was time to cut the cake, which was served as dessert.
“Our cake was the best cake I have ever seen. Nathan’s sister made it. We wanted a rustic looking cake and loved the idea of having three different flavours, both for visual effect, and so that people could choose their favourite.”
After the meal, guests headed back outside to enjoy the late afternoon sunshine. Claire and Nathan disappeared with their photography Jamie Dunn for their simply gorgeous couple shots.
“Jamie was absolutely fantastic! Not only are his photos stunning and exactly what we were hoping for (and more), but he was willing to stay until the end of the night. We’re so glad he stayed to capture the late evening party shots!”
FIRST DANCE
Claire and Nathan took to the dancefloor for their first dance to ‘There Must Be An Angel’, by the Eurythmics. Casually they pulled off a gorgeous spin, which is such a great shot.
Everyone immediately took to the dancefloor to party the night away, only stopping for a quick refuel at the crepe van.
Such a stunning day, I will leave you with a little bit of advice from Claire, which I couldn’t agree more with.
“No matter how much time you have to plan your wedding, there will always be more that you could have done, more that you could have planned, etc. At some point you just have to stop and enjoy the planning process, and definitely enjoy the day, because you won’t care if you’ve forgotten something; you probably won’t even notice.”
“We would not have been able to pull off our wedding without the help from Nikki of Fiesta Fields! From finding the gorgeous Hidden Valley to advising on decor and local suppliers, Nikki was hands on throughout. Her vast knowledge and experience in the industry was so valuable – she definitely opened our eyes to a few areas we hadn’t thought of to make our day run smoothly.
Not only was she full of brilliant ideas, like having a table of drinks for our guests to enjoy at the start of the walk, but her help and support on the day was priceless. Having Nikki welcome our suppliers and manage the logistics on the day meant that we could sit back and make the most of the day without having to worry about a thing.
Nikki was also on hand in the lead up for phone calls and emails and was always so generous with her time! We could not have done it without her and would recommend both Nikki and Fiesta Fields without hesitation to anyone planning an outdoor wedding!”

]]>We’ve hosted and coordinated a few corporate events over the years, but last year I worked on the biggest event yet. An epic festival summer party for 200 people. Guests travelled from London to our Spirit Lake location in Surrey on the Friday, had a full day of fun, stayed over in bell tents and headed back the following morning.
I first heard from Leanne of Rede2 (an events company based in Gloucester) back in the February. They were looking to put on an awesome festival party for a media agency based in London. They outsourced some of the more outdoor specific logistics and suppliers to me, while they concentrated on entertainment (day and night), travel logistics, flow of events on the day, branding for the event and countless other logistical elements.
THE BRIEF
Land hire of Spirit Lake
Bell tents to sleep 200 people
A day time marquee, in case the weather wasn’t great
An evening marquee for dining and dancing, including full marquee styling
A caterer to provide a lunch, dinner and breakfast
Festival touches such as hay bales, fire pits and festival flags
Three bars
Posh loos
Security
Power
Full research and coordination of suppliers including set up, de-rig days and on the day coordination.
And the chosen date for this awesome party? My birthday
THE PREP
Over the months that followed, Leanne and I worked closely together, finessing the plans and dealing with the normal changes in guest numbers. For the last couple of weeks I had Louisa (our Fiesta Fields bride turned summer intern) to help me with the final details.
Jump to set up day and Louisa and I had a really busy day meeting lots of suppliers and letting them know where to set up. Starting early with a main marquee down on the lake – a 100 x 40ft vintage pole tent from Four Seasons including flooring, dance floor, fairy lights, festoons, rustic tables and chairs. Plus, a second marquee in the walled garden from Inside Outside, where guests would start their day with lunch and a company meeting
I had arranged for Eloise from The Beautiful Day to come in and style the evening marquee with lots of colour paper lanterns and silk bunting hired in from The Event Flag Company. Eloise and her team also prettied up the tables with little flower displays and provided lots of coffee sack covers for the hay bales, blankets and cushions for the fire pit area and some festoons on shepherd’s crooks.
Leanne had booked their regular supplier to set up a large stage and sound system in the marquee along with PA equipment for the daytime marquee. The team also installed lots of outdoor lighting.
Meanwhile we had three bell tent companies (Beautiful Bells, Beneath the Canopy and Great British Bell Tents) busy beavering away setting up a whopping 55 bell tents, predominantly for sleeping, but a couple for face painters, a pamper tent, and a green room for the band. We had created glamping areas that would be marked on a big site map produced by Rede2 to help guests find their tent in three main areas, The Lower Lake, the Walled Garden and The Upper Lake.
Gastro Catering were set up and ready to go with chiller trailer and catering marquee set up and mini kitchen set up outside the daytime marquee.
Leanne and Stephen arrived with their van jam packed with bespoke signage, drinks and snacks and overnight mini kits for each guest and plenty of other event essentials.
The unsexy, but very necessary toilet trailers and generators arrived and were all set up along with some Biffa bins.
By the end of a long day we were ready to go. The marquees were fully set up and decorated. All bell tents complete. Festival flags flying, bunting hung. Registration marquee set up and all signage in place. Spirit Lake looked awesome and we were almost ready.
PARTY TIME
Friday 21st arrived and hooray, after a couple of showery days, the weather report was looking great. A quick Happy Birthday from my husband and I was off. We were all on site early, putting finishing touches and seeing the final suppliers into position, two bars (The Three Cockerels and The Gin Inn) and a VW Photo bus.
Phone locker charging units were delivered and Louisa and I set up the chill out area with the hay bales, the fire pits and stacked up the wood ready to go. We dotted the cushions and blankets around. We got all the main sides off of the daytime marquee to let it cool down in there. Turns out we did need it the marquee, but more for shade than cover from the rain.
9.30 and all guests was on board the coaches, arranged by Rede2 to pick up at a few main meeting spots in London. They arrived around 11am and the landowner began to ferry people down in his tractor/trailer, while others walked through the woodland walk, popping out by the registration tent.
Guests were given their lanyards with the plan for the day and their allocated bell tent number. After dropping belongings to the bell tents everyone made their way to the walled garden for soft drinks and burritos.
The activity for the day was to be an inflatable type sports day, organised by Rede2. The agency had split themselves into teams with some great team names and fancy dress. We had a team of air hostesses and one of mermaids. Everyone had really gone to town with their outfits and they all looked fab.
After a short company meeting and some time to let the burritos and ice cream go down, the summer games championship began. Leanne and team were busy keeping tabs on scores as the teams made their way from giant sumo suits to human table football. From wipe out eliminator to a huge inflatable assault course. Always jealous to not be able to have a go on something like this, Louisa and I met the final suppliers Bubble Bros, face painters and the band and got the pamper tent open and ready.
After the games had finished, guests had a chance to go to their tent to change and to use the pamper tent to get party-ready. Everyone congregated on the haybales to grab a drink, using their tokens from the bars and winners from the days’ activity were announced. An acoustic band played a set while everyone enjoyed a bit of chill out time. Around 7pm guests were called into the marquee for dinner.
THE MENU
Starter was an antipasti platters of roasted peppers, aubergine, sun blushed tomato, mozzarella, caper berries and queen olives.
Main BBQ options included;
/ Butterflied Cajun chicken, free range chicken breast, marinated overnight with a house blend of Cajun herbs and spiced served with smoked chilli mayonnaise.
/ British beef burger made with cumin, fresh herbs and seasoning. Served in a brioche bun with red pepper jam and melted Jarlsberg cheese.
/ Vegan burger of garlic roasted beetroot, charred red pepper and goat’s cheese in a malted, multi seed bun.
/ Foil parcels of honey roasted artichoke with garlic hummus, baby leaves and pickles.
Served with salad options;
/ Classic Homemade Coleslaw made with celeriac, honey, paprika and a creamy mayonnaise.
/ New potato salad with red onions, chives, Dijon mustard and mayonnaise.
/ Traditional and pearl cous cous, roasted buckwheat and quinoa, spiced with turmeric and ras el hanout, garnished with cucumber strips and edible flowers/
/ Green Leaf Salad dressed in a light balsamic vinaigrette.
Dessert was mixed platters of;
/ Dark chocolate and salted caramel brownie, with clotted cream, fresh raspberries, and salted granola.
/ Summer berry pavlova topped with whipped cream, fresh summer berries and a red berry coulis.
/ Aerated lime mousse layered with sweet pastry and a coconut tuile.
After the meal everyone got involved with rockeaoke in their teams with the Dominoes, which was so much fun. The Dominoes followed this with a set of their own. At midnight the entertainment switched to DJ and silent disco and the party continued…
Saturday morning, guests were welcomed to the marquee with breakfast (loaded baps with bacon and egg or mushroom) juice and coffee/tea to ease the sore heads. They collected their bags from the bell tents and headed back to London on the coaches.
What an epic party! I loved working with Leanne, Hannah and Stephen and hope we can work together on another event in the not too distant future. If you are looking to do something different for your company day out, please contact me on nikki@fiestafields.co.uk. From land hire only, to full coordination and anywhere in between, we can help.
“Nikki and the Fiesta Fields team were absolutely great to work with! The team helped us deliver a festival for 200 people in the beautiful Dorking area – Spirit Lake is a real gem hidden in the English countryside. The service was impeccable and nothing was ever too much trouble for Nikki, anything we threw her way she met with gusto…even in the stressful build up to the event. Their commitment and efforts from the beginning shone through and we here at Rede2 very much hope to work with them again on future events!” Hannah at Rede2
“THANKS again so much for ALL your hard work Nikki – I really could not have done this without you – you have been a complete star and have provided so much support to make this the fantastic event that it was – great feedback from the client!!
We will definitely be putting this forward again so here’s to us working together soon!” Leanne at Rede2

]]>Marie and Nestor celebrated their marriage with a gorgeous romantic tipi wedding at Phoenice Fields last September. It was such a lovely day with so many personal touches and we wanted to share all the gorgeous details.
With approx. 120 guests our sister company Canvas & Light had quoted for three stratus tipis – giant hats or katas, whatever you prefer to call them 🙂
Set up started on the Thursday. Marie and Nestor had opted for a line formation with one end tipi to be dedicated to dancing. Their head table ran in front of the dance floor (to be packed away later) so they could look out at all their guests, who were seated banquet style in three rows down the middle and into the third tipi, with space at the end for their bar. We also put up our naked ceremony tipi outside, in front of the long grasses, ready to be dressed by Faux Bloom.
Saturday morning was a hive of activity with lots of suppliers on site getting everything ready. DJ, caterers, florist, stylist and Kim on site, ensuring everything came together in time.
Naomi from Rustic Blush was there, busy dressing the tipis. She had been asked to design a few displays including a photo prop area with a vintage twist and also provided a vintage dresser and books for the couple’s guest book area. She draped bunting across the poles of the tipis and provided a blanket stash to keep guests warm when the stars came out. Marie and Nestor also hired vintage garden games from Naomi to make the most of the outdoor space.
Emily of Faux Bloom told us a little bit about what they provided.
“Marie & Nestor wanted a relaxed, romantic atmosphere to compliment the beautiful open fields ceremony backdrop. Marie was excited to find us online as an alternative to the usual fresh florist approach. The sustainable floral hire aspect of our business really appealed to her and provided a stunningly versatile and economic option.
We used a mix of peonies, gypsophila, roses & stocks with lush green ruscus & eucalyptus foliage to create a real ‘rustic romance’. We also created Marie’s bouquet and hair piece.”
While all this was going on Marie was busy getting ready with her sister and best friend and Nestor was with his best mates.
1pm arrived and guests started to arrive for the outdoor ceremony. Kim has placed all the chairs – some of which had been dressed with little bunches of gypsophila – outside in front of the ceremony tipi. Marie walked down the aisle on the arm of her father preceded, by her bridesmaids, flowers girls and page boys sprinkling petals, towards Nestor where he waited with celebrant Ginny Collins who conducted their ceremony.
“We had a humanist wedding ceremony as we are not religious and got married because we see it as an everlasting partnership between two people, our friends and families”.
Marie and Nestor walked back down their aisle through an archway formed by their guests tossing natural confetti on them as they walked by.
After the ceremony, guests were met with trays of Prosecco and canapés of; Vegan bruschetta with heirloom balsamic tomatoes / Vegan crostini with hummus and caramelised onion / Boerewors beef sausages and Chorizo and scallop skewers.
Everyone enjoyed the outside space, playing the lawn games with a background music playlist from the DJ. After an hour or so of guests mingling and chatting, playing games and enjoying the fizz, food and field views, guests were invited into the tipis for some lovely heart-warming speeches from Nestor and his three best men.
After the speeches, guests were called up table by table to collect their South African BBQ feast served up by Nyama. “We are both massive foodies so it was very important to us that the food was perfect. We selected the following menu for our guests.’‘
Veggie kebabs with lemon thyme baste / Chickpea and mushroom stuffed butternut squash / Mexican black bean burgers with lime and coriander / Rump beef / Piri-piri chicken and for the children: beef burgers with cheese and ketchup. The mains were served with Pomegranate and bulgar tabbouleh, Beetroot and balsamic glaze and Radish and cucumber salad
A dessert of ice cream (mango sorbet, raspberry sorbet and salted caramel ice cream) and teas and coffee followed and guests went back outside, while Marie and Nestor popped away with Andy to have some gorgeous couple shots in the long grasses
So Marie, we are loving everything about your look you chose for the day. Can you tell us a bit about the search for your dress please.
“I hadn’t really thought about it before getting engaged, but I knew that I wanted a dress that was quite elegant, not really puffy, and didn’t drag on the floor (I love to dance too much for that!). I am not a fan of shopping, but quite enjoy it from the comfort of my own home, so this is what I did. I went on various sites and found a couple of ones that I liked on Etsy. Then I discovered an American shop called Bhldn, which has lots of vintage inspired dresses.
I found my dress relatively quickly on the site, and screen shot it so I could look at it every day and make sure it was the one. After about a week of staring at it and imagining myself wearing it, I measured myself and ordered in a size slightly bigger to be safe. It arrived and it was even more beautiful than the images! It was a little big so I went to Alterations Boutique in Marylebone and they pinned it and I waited eagerly for my first fitting! I did this all alone, and I didn’t show anyone the dress beforehand. I had some funny day dreams where I imagined it looking awful to other people and I wouldn’t know until the day, but I went with my gut instinct and trusted my judgement! Once it was fitted perfectly, I brought it home in a dress bag on the tube and hung it in the wardrobe until the big day. (I also tried it on a few times when Nestor was out and practised walking around the room in it with my gorgeous vintage style green and gold shoes!) I was totally in love with it, the beading at the top was just incredible and I liked how it just reached my shoes and didn’t drag on the floor.
But I was having a Meghan Markle moment and decided I wanted a change of shoes and a midi strap dress for the evening so I could fully dance in style! I found the most beautiful white midi dress with bright floral embroidery from Needle and Thread and teamed it with some funky lilac shoes that had a slightly thicker heel so were perfect for a night of boogying. I absolutely loved my dresses and shoes and I am still trying to think of an excuse to wear them again!
When I asked Nestor what he thought the dress would be like, he said that the moment he saw me coming down the aisle, it was just as he had imagined in his head. His exact words were ‘Wow, you look amazing. I knew you wouldn’t get one of those silly dresses you can barely walk in!’
So Marie, tell us about Nestor’s proposal.
“We actually met on good old Tinder! But we officially met in person at a lovely pub in Windsor. We drank, laughed and spent the night chatting away and singing along to ‘Teenage dirt bag’ which was being played by a local artist on guitar. We got engaged just before Christmas in 2018 and Nestor had secretly planned the proposal for our last weekend together before I went off to my family for the holiday period. We set off for a woodland walk in Marlow. Little did I know that Nestor had padded his pocket out with gloves to hide the ring box!
After we trampled through the woods, the quiet, scenic spot that Nestor was looking for still hadn’t arrived and he was getting a little agitated. We came across a cute old woman who pointed us in the direction of a secluded walkway. And it was here, on one knee in a bed of mud and leaves, and as I stood with my back to him posing for a photo, that Nestor got out the ring, and waited for me to turn around. I didn’t immediately say yes, I was gabbling away and then when I realised it was for real, he was able to get up from the muddy floor! He placed the ring on my finger, and we had a really long excitable hug, just as a timely jogger ran past!’
‘We knew from the moment we got engaged that we didn’t want a long engagement, and we ended up with turnaround of 9 months in the end! One thing we were adamant about from the start was that we wanted an outdoor tipi wedding in a field with lovely scenery. The reason we decided on the outdoor tipi option was that we wanted to decide on everything and make it a magical and personal day, which it certainly was.
Our main hope for the day was that everyone there had an amazing time, with incredible food, drinks, laughter and dancing. It was safe to say that it was more than we could ever have imagined and we have lifelong memories that we will cherish forever.”

]]>I first met Lauren & David on a super dismal January morning, but they had the vision and what a vision it was. Read on for all the details of their elegant Sperry wedding. Scandi styling with a colour palette of greys and whites, gold terrariums, copper and lots of eucalyptus. All set against the golden backdrop of Hidden Valley in the 2018 heatwave. The field looked more Serengeti than British countryside but I think the photos look all the more striking, even if the grass wasn’t too happy about it.
Set up started on the Thursday. For their marquee Lauren & David had fallen in love with the light, open and sunny space of Papakata’s Sperry. Lauren & David had chosen cross back chairs, round tables and floor length light grey tablecloths, with festoons strung from the king poles down to the sides of the marquee. This was to be an intimate wedding of 80 with some evening guests.
Baylily Bell tents were on site to set up 7 bell tents in a little arc to the left of the marquee. Lauren & David had a honeymoon tent, complete with real bed and bottle of bubbly. Baylily specialise in unique coloured tents but to fit the style of the couple’s wedding, they had requested all sandstone tents.
Friday came and Lauren & David and friends and family got stuck into dressing the space, inside the marquee and out. They transported all the garden furniture they could muster and set up a stylish outdoor patio area with much needed parasols on the matting Papakata had laid outside the marquee.
Home made shepherd’s crooks were installed to hang festoons along the walkway to the marquee. Paper solar lanterns were hung from boughs of Hidden Valley’s beautiful dead tree, a great little find by Lauren in Ikea. The table plan was home made as well, a copper frame, with printed cards attached with ribbon and a little flourish of eucalyptus. Simple but so effective. Retro style peg boards displayed little messages such as the order of service and the choice of evening cocktails.
Terraniums were dotted around the tables, with copper wire fairy light strands inside. Four Gables were busy laying up the tables with matt gold cutlery, elegant crockery and glassware as well as getting their field kitchen set up in the catering tent attached to the back of the marquee. Also stashing an apron under an unsuspecting guests’ chair on each table (more on that later)
Saturday morning arrived and endless blue skies. We immediately got the sides rolled up on the marquee as it was clear these would be open all day. Rosie from Rosie Orr Flowers arrived and set to laying the long garlands of eucalyptus down the centre of each table. Peach Juliet roses were to be dotted amongst the eucalyptus but because of the high temperatures each one was placed in its’ own mini vase to help it last the day. Four silver birch trees in pots were delivered, two either side of each of the king poles which was a lovely touch. These are now happily growing in the couple’s garden.
Vanessa arrived from Forever Cakes to set up the beautiful cake of set on a log slice on a wooden barrel. Rosie added a touch of eucalyptus and roses to the barrel. The cake was limoncello and coconut on one tier and lemon and elderflower on the others.
Four Gables were busy getting everything ready. Lauren & David love their food and wanted it to be a special part of the day, so a lot of effort (and tastings) had gone into getting the menu spot on.
“We met Four Gables at a Fiesta Fields tasting evening and loved that they had catered at our venue before. They could also create a menu based on all of the food we love, rather than us having to pick from a set list of dishes. We loved their super cool, navy VW camper van bar, from where they served some of our favourite cocktails in the evening”.
Lauren and David had a relaxing morning, getting ready with their friends. For her bridesmaids Lauren had chosen long, flowing dresses of light grey, with a sheer, beaded overlay from ASOS. David and the boys were dapper in wide checked navy suits from Reiss.
Lauren & David married in St Nicholas Church in Peper Harow, a ten minute walk from Hidden Valley. Luckily the church was fine with four legged guests as the couple’s dog Gatsby was ring bearer. He trotted down the aisle with rings attached to his eucalyptus collar.
Lauren wore a stunning two piece set from Houghton NYC.
“I tried it on in a bridal shop and then came across an online bridal shop who had the dress in my size. I was nervous about buying the dress online, when I hadn’t seen it in person or tried it on, but the owners were amazing and sent me photos of every inch of the dress! It was at a much reduced cost to the one I tried in the bridal store, which was a big bonus. The dress arrived in perfect condition and after some alterations it was perfect. I’d really recommend doing your research before you go ahead and buy in-store as you never know what’s out there!
I paired my dress with a veil from the super lovely team at Miss Bush Bridal in Ripley. Their gorgeous bridal shop is in a charming old chapel and the ladies even added a tie to my train so I could pin it up for the dance floor – talk about good service! Lastly, my shoes… I had these bespoke made by the wonderful Faber Novella and they were the dream. I handpicked everything from the colour (my something blue) to the contrasting gold block heel, the toe shape and heel height. They can send you sample colours to choose from and they even post you a pair of shoes so you can check the sizing. As they don’t look like traditional bridal shoes I’ve worn them loads since the wedding”.
Guests were welcomed with Hendricks and tonic, elderflower and Birra Moretti. Four Gables set up a salmon station for guests to help themselves to and various other light canapés. Guests were then invited into the marquee to take their seats at tables named after key places in the couple’s life. The bridal party were introduced in couples with foil confetti guns to welcome each pair. Lucky guests enjoyed the following menu and the guests with aprons under their chairs were nominated carvers for the table.
Starter
Goats cheese mousse, baby beets, marinated artichokes and smoked aubergine purée on an edible garden.
Main
Chateaubriand with a BBQ and red vino jus, or
Caramelised onion, Gorgonzola and field mushroom pathivier (V)
All served with crisp sweet potato fries, truffle mac ‘n’ cheese and a seasonal garden salad
Dessert
Rhubarb and custard creme brûlée
Lemon meringue pie cornetto
Super Sticky toffee lollies
Coconut sorbet with lime caviar
All the desserts were served in boxes which Lauren & David took turns to pour dry ice over at each table. This was all washed down with espresso martinis and fudge.
After this feast, guests stepped outside to enjoy the slightly cooling temperatures while Lauren & David had these gorgeous couple pics, mixing in a little bit of practice for their first dance, which would be to Sky Full of Stars by Coldplay.
The VW bar was open, serving an awesome combination of cocktails and I may have sampled a little espresso martini to celebrate.
As I headed home the dance floor was packed, with the band’s drum kit lighting up in time with the beat. For any guest still peckish Four Gables served up beef or veggie burritos with a shot of tequila on the side and a cheese board. What a beautiful day!
FF – I absolutely loved your styling ideas. Where did you get your inspiration?
L&D – I found a lot of suppliers on Instagram. Our amazing videographers, Laura and Alex from This Modern Revelry, create the most incredible videos, capturing the fun of your day in the most epic style. Our photographer’s dreamy, candid, relaxed Australian style (Mary Parker Weddings), and her love of dogs was perfect for our day.
FF – What led you to Fiesta Fields?
L&D – We knew we wanted an outdoor reception venue so started searching for fields online. We came across Fiesta Fields and Hidden Valley couldn’t have been a more perfect venue for our wedding reception. It’s an absolutely stunning location and gave us the blank canvas we were looking for.
We really wanted to have a relaxed wedding day with everything organised so we had nothing to worry about on the day itself. We also really wanted to make the day as easy as possible for our friends and family so we chose a church and venue within walking distance of each other, so we wouldn’t lose time travelling between venues. We had bell tents in the field for guests to stay overnight, which meant the party didn’t ever really have to end.
FF – What advice would you give other brides looking for a similar style of event?
L&D – Don’t panic about the weather but do remember that if it’s going to hot there’s as much to think about as wet weather. In the days before our wedding, when we realised the heatwave was sticking around, we had to order paper hand fans, hire industrial fans and make sure we didn’t leave anything reflective outside in the sun. We also had a strict no candle rule and set up a smoking bench to contain any smokers as the fire risk was so high. We left some pens by the bench so people could leave us messages and it’s now taken pride of place at our dining table at home. It’s a nice alternative to the traditional wedding message book and we get to read it every day!
Also, remember to factor in clearing the field the next day and getting friends and family to help you. We stayed over in beautiful bell tents with our guests and some of them helped us clear down the next morning before the suppliers arrived to remove everything. I had the wedding blues seeing everything come down. There were a few sore heads, and the heatwave to contend with. It was pretty exhausting but you’re on such a high you don’t mind!
Lastly, book your band and videographer as early as you can, as when they are as incredible as ours were, they get booked up super quickly.
FF – What was your favourite memory from the day?
L&D – Everything! I know that’s a cop out. One of my favourite memories was when the wedding car broke down outside the church after the ceremony (!) so we hopped into our air conditioned car (it was 29C the day we got married so it was heaven) and got to the field before our other guests arrived. David, Gatsby and I got to see all our hard work come together and have a little moment together before our guests walked down into the valley. Seeing their reactions as they spotted the tent, in what looked like the Serengeti, with the beating sun and long yellow grass was amazing. Everyone was blown away by the venue and it was a really special moment.

]]>I love all things boho, so that was always going to be my starting point. I’m also all about sustainability and trying to find ways where ever possible to be less wasteful. I understand sustainable isn’t always the most cost-effective route, but when it comes to the environment, I think every little helps.
I’m loving the trend with all the muted colour palettes, pampas grasses and dried florals at the moment. They add gorgeous textures with the added benefit of being reusable. I’d also seen work by Emily of Faux Bloom and was impressed at the quality and ‘realness’ of what she offers, so was really keen to have her on board. And that was really my starting point.
I started looking on Pinterest – how did we create mood boards before Pinterest? – created a board to share my thoughts and Clare, of Turmeric House and our talented resident stylist, and I jumped on a call to get started.
“When we were chatting through the mood board it immediately made me think of undone raw foraged elements, I had visions of drapes and greens, frayed edges and greenery growing out from the tipi. With Canvas & Light’s charming boho elegance in mind I delved into our treasure trove of props to create interactive and memory sparking moments around the site.”
Once we had our vision I set about getting the team together.
Photographer Abigail White happens to be a school Mum friend of mine. I just love her fresh and striking photographic style. Luckily, she has a very handsome brother and his other half Chermain is a model, so that took care of our bride and groom. Gemma Louise provided hair and make up and when Emily mentioned Kerri of Bridal Indulgence who was keen to be involved, I went on to her website for a look. I was soooo excited to see this two piece. It was perfect.
“When I arrived at the tipis on the Thursday afternoon we had a site walk and a creative meeting, The off-white giant hat tipis make such a stunning blank canvas. I got out my sketch pad and got scribbling. We hatched a plan to create several moments around the space. These included; a ‘living installation’ of ivy and greens wound horizontally around a central pillar using Nikki’s antique Edison pendant lighting; interactive table tops; foliage displays and sculptural draped cottons; sprayed crab trap lighting.”
“Outside of the tipis we set up the ethereal naked ceremony tipi up on a hilltop, where Hidden Valley has its’ beautiful ceremony trees looking out over the Surrey Hills and added a beautiful hanging chair to one of the trees and created a bohemian relaxing area in the mini Nimbus tipi.”
Although we had Emily on board for faux flowers, I wanted to mix in a local florist too and show that you can be really effective with fresh flowers without needing to use loads and loads of them.
We also wanted to show that you easily mix faux and fresh flowers. Our brides’ bouquet was faux but she wore a fresh flower crown. The table styling the florists ended up with were different as we wanted to mix it up to show couples different options at our open weekend.
Here’s Emily’s gorgeous styled table, using crockery cutlery and llnen from Couvert and made even more gorgeous by Dani from Curated Kitchen’s with her grazing table set up.
Kayleigh of The Flower Hub uses mainly local growers and British flowers so ensures they do not come with the carbon footprint of hundreds of air miles. Here’s her beautiful and vibrant styled table.
An outdoor wedding isn’t an outdoor wedding without some bell tents. Beautiful Bells is one of our go to bell tent suppliers, they offer such beautiful interiors and their draped bridal tent is to die for.
Bubbles e Birra is a beautiful new Piaggio prosecco bar run by Allison and her brother Peter.
Here’s VW Photo Bus, a funky VW conversion owned by Emmelina Stork, who has the most awesome props.
Loretta from Sweet Treats whipped up these beautiful cakes. Loretta is actually a super creative former Fiesta Fields bride who has recently set up her cake making business.
Talented Nyree of Paint & Ink Studio provided place names for the styled tables.
It was such a pleasure working with a fab group of suppliers and we can highly recommend each and every one of them. We hope this provides you with some inspiration and if you would like a field for an outdoor wedding or beautiful blank canvas to make your own then please get in touch nikki@fiestafields.co.uk
